Aspen Vista

Post By Holly

It was a beautiful day in Santa Fe National Forest. Four of us painted right off of the parking lot, a couple of others were up the hill behind the restrooms. I hope to get up there again next week before it turns turns cold!

We spent a windy afternoon in Eldorado waiting for the sunset. G. Pinon, jt and I bailed early due to extreme weather.

The Santa Fe Opera

Post by jt

This week’s painting location was the parking lot of the Santa Fe Opera, well known for it’s view of the Santa Fe foothills and the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

Including the unique architecture of the opera house itself in a painting could be interesting, but everyone chose to point their canvases toward the mountains. Save that for next time.

Meanwhile, my painting (below) needs some drying time and a lot more work before I post it here.

A very pleasant morning, parked in the shade and using the truck tailgate as a bench and tabouret.

A gaggle of artists. Actually only half of the gaggle is pictured here. The other half is scattered around the parking lot.

Maureen's watercolor made me realize how monotone-ish my oil painting is.

Santa Fe Botanical Garden

Post by jt

Last Thursday, August 22nd, our TPAP (Thursday Plein Air Painting) group’s location was at the newly opened Phase One of the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, located at Museum Hill.

The garden promises to be a great painting spot in the future as development continues and the existing plants mature.

Painters begin setting up their easels in the morning.

Painting in Chimayo

Post by jt

This week’s plein air rendezvous was in Chimayo, a small village 40-45 minutes northeast of Santa Fe and the site of El Santuario de Chimayo, built in 1816.

Our small group of six plein air painters enjoyed a beautiful August beginning at Valle Caldera (formerly known as Valle Grande), near Los Alamos in the Jemez Mountains.

A New Plein Air Blog

Post by Jt

We created this blog (SantaFePleinAir.blogspot.com) so that painters who participate in the Thursday Santa Fe Plein Air group can post images (and comments) of their plein air paintings.

This first post is to notify you, the artists, that this free blog is available if you want to use it. We should have blog details decided by early August so you can start using it.

To kick things off and make it a real blog, here are some initial images.

Hmmm, I feel another waterfall painting surfacing.
